This story did not shock me, because of the fact that I know there has to be more stories out there that are just like this one. In my state, we are working to legalize medicinal marijuana. I believe that Alexandra was very brave and what she did for her family was admiral. We need to stop these authority figures who aren't really striving for the good of the people, but for the good of themselves. We say that America is free, well this story just proves that it is not. If we want America to be free we need to post more stories as such, not all of them based on drug usage, but based on the selfish acts of authority figures. The figures that are supposed to be sending us in the right direction, not just their direction.

The problem with legalization of marijuana, in any form, is the combination of people and organizations which will be against the repeal, partial or otherwise. Most of these forces we know: DEA, the Feds, local and state law enforcement. But do you know why marijuana was outlawed, to start with? After the repeal of Prohibition, the alcohol manufacturers were finding the profits were being undercut by a plant which could be purchased for a few cents for a shoebox full. Why would the youth who had never developed a taste for grain spirits, buy a drug sold in a bottle, when a plant grown in their own back yard, could give a more pleasurable experience, with NONE of alcohols' unpleasant side effects? Thus, the Liquor Lobby had its' say. And the law seems to be engraved in stone.
As a believer in God, I think all the life on our planet was given to us to furnish and sustain our lives. Whether it is the cow, for milk, meat, and clothing, to the plants and vegetables which most of us do not consume enough of.
If, as a child, you were sick, You were given aspirin for fever and discomfort(a tree bark derivative). If you have major surgery, your pain afterward is relieved by opiates and their derivatives. Why can we not allow a person that is ill, or perhaps dying, to use ANY means to relieve pain, or to stimulate a lost appetite from chemo. Of course, the DRUG companies would lose out on the exorbitant prices for the pain medications, which truly can only leave the drugged person with a distorted sense of reality.
I know this info will be too late for Alexandra and her family. But this is for anybody reading this, who may be considering this option for a loved one. Most local and state judiciaries will not prosecute a terminal patient. Most will not prosecute if the treatment for the disease is going to be too expensive. Simple economics. An example of this current practice: A drunk driver in my state, who is involved in an accident and is hurt, is not arrested/charged at the scene. After he has arrived at the hospital and furnished payment/insurance papers, THEN he is arrested. Seems that when an arrested person is brought to the hospital, the jailing authority is responsible for the billing. So, as long as the ill person claims possesion/acquisition/use of the pain reliever, as the SOLE PERSON responsible, no prosecution will occur. 98% of the time.
If more people were aware of this, and many other very small loopholes in the way cases are handled in this country, many of these stories would never happen. But, incresingly, this is becoming a country to tax the people, lie to the people, and to jail the people when the voices get too loud.

Yes, things in this nation *did* used to be different, and they could be again, if only we (as citizens of The United States) would stand up to our responsibility and use our power--our voting power--to bring about the necessary changes.

We need to upset the Democrat and Republican parties, and we need to continue increasing the political leverage of third-party politicians until, one day, people from the Green and Libertarian parties have just as much say in our nation's government (on every level, including Congress and the Presidency) as the other two parties.

Our nation's government is in serious need of deep, systemic change, and that will never come about as long as the Democrats and Republicans still have control of Capitol Hill and The White House.

I can remember a time when the government ask the people what they wanted...and didn't make the decissions for us with out a vote. I can remember when people cared enough as this woman has cared that they took family members in to care for them in their illness.
